2010 Events - Updates Coming Soon

Events for our next race will be available in the Spring of 2010: The following information will give you an idea of what we've done on past race weekends.

OC-6 Events
  • Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for all OC-6 events All OC-6 must have a registration weight of 400 pounds

  • All boats must have their CORA registration numbers in black letters/ on white background. Letters to be a minimum of 9.5cm tall - Winning boats may be requested to ‘weigh in’ at the conclusion of your event, at the discretion of the judges within 30 minutes of race completion.

Iron Course – This is the feature race of our event. It is long enough to challenge the toughest crew and technical enough to challenge the wisest of steerspeople. While our waves are not huge open ocean monsters, the coastal B.C. conditions are extremely variable, renown for their 5m tidal differences and associated currents, and the Straight of Georgia can provide relentless waves. The circular course features upwind and downwind paddling and incredible scenery.

This event is approximately 2.5 hrs, 17 miles/27.2 km and runs on Saturday.

Divisions: Mens, Womens , Open- Master and Sr Master. The Mixed division (minimum 1 man, maximum 3 men) will run within the men's event.

*Cash Prize – Exact amount yet to be announced. Divided among members of the iron team w/ the fastest time in both the men’s and women’s event. Doesn’t matter if a team is Open or Masters or Sr. Master, overall fastest time takes the cash.

Short Course – This race circumnavigates Keats Island. This is a mixed event (max 3 men) w/ Junior, Open and 55+ categories. Race time is approximately 70 minutes on a 8.7 mile/14 km course. This race runs first thing Saturday morning. Water conditions in the early morning are usually calm and the race course is a favorite for any team wishing a shorter alternative to the iron course. Junior teams who have paddled this course in prior years have registered times within our estimate, and stand very well amongst our field of competitors. However, if the Junior coaches from all participating teams wish for a modified/shorter race course, a request must be addressed to the Race director one month prior to the race day.

0C-6 Sprints – These races will run on Sunday morning. This is a 1000m sprint, run on a 250m course. Categories offered are Open Women, Open Men, Youth and Mixed. Pick your preferred time for racing: 8:50, 10:15 or 11:20. Priority will be given to Women for the early start and to Men for the late start to accommodate any of the paddlers wishing to also participate in the small boat races also scheduled on Sunday morning. Each team will run twice through the race course and will do two consecutive starts 30 minutes apart. Cumulative time will determine the winner. Number of entries is limited to twelve.
