2012 International Howe Sound Outrigger Race

An amazing weekend! Beautiful weather on Saturday, with only a few drops of rain just before dinner!

We were honored with the presence of several International teams at our race this year. Along with our friends in the Pacific North West, we saw Koa Kai from Sydney, Austrailia, Team Primo, Waikkiki Beach Boys and Nappy Nepolean with his teammates from Anuenue and Keahiakahoe. Several fans had their pictures with Nappy and he seemed pleased to accommodate them all.

Our paddler blessing gave out over 200 Chatiyay necklaces, by a local paddler Belle Murray from the Squamish nation and a special race blessing by Kimokeo (Uncle Bully) from Maui. Remembering to honor the culture behind our event is important.

This year we were pleased to name the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada as our charity. A $2000 contribution was made to the organization. One in every 250 Canadians is afflicted with IBD. Raising funds for research is what we can do to help.

Next Howe Sound Outrigger Race will be in the summer of 2014 - exact date will be available in the fall of 2013. We hope to see you there.
